How it works · Ahead

Every date, before it matters

The route from Year 8 to university has a dozen fixed points that most families discover late, and it runs on its own year numbering with an examined year in the middle of the sixth form. Fincho puts them on one timeline for each child, with the source of every date.

Year 12, September

Niamh opens Ahead. The roadmap shows what is coming: sixth form choices in the new year, the written exams in May and June, results day in August. Each national date links to the awarding body or university page it came from.

Below that is the route: the exams this year, then Year 13 with its own examined papers that already count, then Year 14 alongside the university application. Her school's mock dates go in with one line.

National dates with sources

The awarding body's exam timetable, university deadlines, results days. Checked every September and January; every date shows where it came from.

The Northern Irish school year, worked out

Terms, the two days at Halloween rather than a week, and the earliest summer holiday in the UK are computed for Northern Ireland rather than fetched from your school.

A date you tell it about counts

Say when the mock is and that subject starts coming up more in what Pip suggests, until it has been and gone.

Reminders, not nagging

A note in the app two weeks and two days before a milestone. Nothing more.

What parents see

You see the next milestone for each child on the family dashboard, and the full roadmap in the weekly report.
