Terms of use

These terms cover the Fincho app at app.fincho.co.uk and this website, both operated by Cogria Ltd (company number 17019182, England and Wales). By creating an account or letting your child use one you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains what we do with data and is part of these terms.

1. The service

Fincho helps students plan and do their own school work, with an AI study companion called Pip. It is a study aid. It is not a school service, not a substitute for a teacher, and not a counselling or medical service. Pip is an AI and makes mistakes; check anything that matters against your teacher, the exam board or the university.

2. Accounts

  • A parent (or a guardian with parental responsibility) creates the family account and invites their children with a personal link. The parent confirms they have the right to set up an account for the child.
  • Students keep their own login and must not share it. One person per login.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens under your login. Tell us straight away if you think someone else is using it.
  • We may ask for evidence of age or parental responsibility if something looks wrong.

3. The beta, plans and payment

  • Fincho is in a closed beta. Everything is included and free while it is.
  • When the beta ends, Fincho will be sold as a family subscription billed monthly or yearly through Stripe. We will tell the parent account the price and the date at least 30 days before anything is charged, and nothing is charged without the parent starting the subscription.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. A parent can cancel any time in Family settings; access continues to the end of the paid period and no further payment is taken. Refunds follow your rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations: you can cancel within 14 days of starting a subscription for a full refund unless you have asked us to start the service immediately, in which case we refund the unused part.
  • Prices include VAT where it applies. If we change a price we tell you 30 days ahead and you can cancel before it takes effect.
  • If a family has no subscription after the beta, the account stays and the data stays; Pip is paused until a parent subscribes.

4. What you agree not to do

  • Hand in work Pip wrote as your own, or ask it to sit assessments for you. Pip is built to coach, not to do the work.
  • Try to make Pip act outside its purpose, or probe or attack the service.
  • Upload other people’s personal information (a classmate’s report, for example), or anything unlawful.
  • Try to reach another family’s data, or use the connector in a way that goes round the limits on what it shares.
  • Scrape or resell any part of the service.

5. Your content and ours

  • You own what you upload and what you write. You give us the licence needed to store, process and display it to you and to provide the service (including sending it to AI providers to produce a reply). We do not sell it and we do not use it for advertising.
  • Practice questions, plans and feedback Pip generates for you are yours to use for your own study.
  • The Fincho name, Pip, the finch mark and the software are ours. Term dates, exam dates, course specifications and past papers belong to the schools, awarding bodies, UCAS and the qualifications authorities that published them, which differ across the four nations: the Department for Education and Ofqual in England, Qualifications Wales, Qualifications Scotland and CCEA in Northern Ireland; we show the source and link to it, and you use their material under their terms.

6. Connected apps

A parent may connect an AI assistant (such as ChatGPT or Claude) to read their family’s summaries. What it can read is fixed: numbers and reports about habits, plans, practice and grades, never a student’s conversations. The parent is responsible for that assistant’s use of what it reads and can disconnect it at any time in Family settings.

7. Ending things

  • You can stop using Fincho at any time. The parent who set up the family can delete the account from Family settings, which deletes every member’s login and every student’s data and cancels any subscription. Students can delete any item Pip remembers about them.
  • We can suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put other users or the service at risk. We will say why unless the law stops us.
  • If we ever decide to shut the service down we will give parents at least 60 days’ notice and a way to download their data.

8. Availability and changes

We aim to keep Fincho running around the clock but do not promise it; it is a small service with scheduled maintenance and the occasional fault. We may change features, and we will email the parent account about material changes to the service or these terms at least 30 days ahead.

9. Liability

We provide Fincho with reasonable care and skill. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, for lost data you have not downloaded, or for the outcome of any exam, application or decision. Our total liability to a family in any year is limited to the amount that family paid us in that year. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under English law, including for death, personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

10. Complaints and law

Write to [email protected] and we will reply within 14 days. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction; if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings there.
